Online Poker Revenues down

According to the Web site Gambling911, revenues for casino and online poker are down thus far in October, primarily due to the bad state of the world economy. The problem may be driven by fears of a recession and job loss or it could be that online poker rooms are having a tougher time this month with processing new signups, the site reports.

Gambling has long been considered a “recession proof” industry. That may still be the case with web-based gambling, but Las Vegas was hit early on in the crisis with a number of casino companies realizing substantial losses. The problem with Vegas could very well have stemmed from the high price of gas. Escalating fuel costs also resulted in airline fare increases as well as reduced flight schedules in and out of Las Vegas.

Some players have taken note of the reduced numbers taking part in poker games at the Borgata in Atlantic City. In Europe, the online gambling arm of brick and mortar businesses was expected to help some of Great Britain’s biggest bookmakers weather the recession that has already cast a dark cloud over that nation.

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues if the world economy remains in a slow state.

Fear Factor: Setting Your Goals

Is it possible for an individual to pass a course of instruction with high marks and remain ineffective?

Is it possible that this person never actually learned anything, but merely gathered enough information and remember it well enough to repeat the process?

Learning should make you a more effective individual, learning should improve the quality of your life.

Do you ever wonder why some stuff sticks in your brain and other stuff falls out?

See, it’s because…….

When your brain is bored, nothing seems to stick. But when you play with ideas and think creatively, the things you learn stay in your head because it’s a cool and interesting place to be

This is the power of learning!

Right Now i want you to think about your future possibilities and the fact that your potential is virtually unlimited.

You can do what you want to do and go where you want to go. You can be the person you want to be.

You can set both large and small goals and make plans and move step-by-step, progressively toward their realization.

There are no obstacles to what you can accomplish except the obstacles that you create in your mind.

The power of learning turns eager desires into reality, giving you the inner drive to increase your salary … achieve financial security

.. lead a happier, more fulfilling life … and enrich the lives of everyone around you.

Once that image burns into your brain, fear will no longer be a factor for you.

Stop, Look and Listen to what you are learning.

What do you notice?

What are you learning?

Is it time to go create a new version of YOU?

Be Good.

Goal Setting: You’ve Got to Have One in Order to Get One

If I could sum up what I believe is the number one factor that gets in theway of achieving your goals it would be that you cannot achieve a goal that you do not have.

You gotta have one to get one.

Pretty profound, huh?

That sounds so obvious, but we so easily forget it. We have
wishes, desires, or dreams, but then don’t turn them into goals.

And then we wonder why we don’t make progress toward our
wishes, desires, and dreams.

It’s a strange sense of entitlement that says I will get it just because I think it.

The old saying is true -

if you do not know where you are going, any road will get you there. This is a fairly certain prescription for getting lost.

Let’s follow that old saying with a newer one -

if you don’t take charge of where your life is going by setting goals, there are plenty of people in the world who will be happy to take charge of your life for their own agenda and do not have your best interest at heart.

So many times we get caught up in goal dreaming that we never do any goal setting. And you have to do goal setting before your can do goal getting.

You have to know where you are going.

Personal Goal Setting and Management - Planning for the Year Ahead

The start of a New Year is a great time to plan for what you want to achieve. What better time than to invest in yourself and set a course for the future. As you reach your goals you will need to set new ones.
How do you do this in a powerful and focused way?

Here are 10 Essential Questions to ask now to make the most of the next year.

1. What is your 5-year plan?

What do you want to be doing professionally and personally in five years time? How do you want to be feeling? For example what will you be doing, how much income will you be earning, where will you be living, how much time will you be spending with your family?
Keeping in mind your five year vision will help set goals for the next 12 months.

2. What is your vision for the next year?

How do you see the year unfolding? Visualise yourself in 12-months time, reflecting back on the year. What does it look like? What does success look like in a year’s time?

Use this vision to add to your goals. If your planning on a holiday imagine yourself on the beach for example. This will inspire your goals and then make feasible plans to make the vision a reality.

3. What is your mission for the next year?

Who will you help? What problems will you provide solutions for? What new skills will you learn? This is the doing rather then dreaming. How will you go about achieving your goals and vision.

4. Set five key goals to be achieved.

Keep to no more than five specific goals. Write them down. Goals set the big picture achievements for the year. Have both personal and business or career goals. It might be something small like painting a room or something larger like moving house. Write it down.

5. What are the specific strategies or tasks that will help you achieve these goals?

These are the “how to’s”. Make them specific and achievable. Use the OAT formula - Outcome - Action - Timeline.

6. How often will you review your goals?

Write in your diary now a reminder to review them at least every 3 months. Some people like to review them on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis!

7. Conduct a personal SWOT Analysis.

In the past year, what were your Strengths and what were your Weaknesses? What are the Opportunities for the next year? What are the Threats stopping you achieving your new goals?

8. Reality Check.

How will you measure whether you have achieved your goals? What are the milestones or performance criteria that set the benchmark for measuring your success?

9. How will you balance work with personal interests?

What will be the mix of fun & learning, health & fitness, career & finance, love & belonging?

10. How will you reward yourself for achieving your goals in 2003?

How will you celebrate?

Having all this mapped out is as important as effective business management. Managing your goals, prioritising and evaluating ensures your next 12 months will be as successful personally as professionally.

Where has All the Time Gone?

We live in a busy society. We may have demanding jobs, children, families and many other “important” things that hoover up all of our time, and before we know it, Christmas is looming once more and we’re muttering about another year just passing us by.

How many times do you say, “I’ll read that book later when I have more time” or “I’ll finish listening to that audio program when I have more time” or something very similar?

You may want to create the life of your dreams, but it just seems so very difficult with so many other things that just have to be dealt with. You may not have the time to spend an hour a day meditating and an hour a day working on your personal development and an hour a day working on your business. In fact, for some of us, we’re lucky if we can even find time to sleep!

However, the key is not the spend time “doing” personal development work, but to just do it!

This means live it; make it a part of your life; something that you do every moment of every day in everything that you do with everyone that you meet.

You can sit on the bus or train to work, close your eyes and work on releasing emotional blocks. You can become aware of what people are reflecting back to you about yourself in your conversations and interactions. Being aware of your problems brings you much closer to changing them.

You may want to find more time to listen to audio programs or some of my hypnosis CD’s. My hypnosis CD’s you can put on when you go to bed to listen to. You don’t need to use headphones to listen to them, nor do you have to be awake. The subliminal versions can be listened to anytime, even when you are working and doing other things; so you can still get the benefit of the programs.

For spoken word programs, what about listening to them on your commute to work? Or if you spend your evening sat in front of the television, turn it off and put one of these programs on instead.

Look at how you are using your time. How much of what you are doing is constructive and something you absolutely must do right now? Are there times you are not doing constructive things? Could you combine activities, for example, watch the television whilst doing something else working towards your future?

Everyone promotes their own time management system. Have a look at a few of them, try them and find something that works for you. This could even be a combination of different systems. It doesn’t matter so long as it saves you times, keeps your organised and helps you to get things done.

At the end of the day, you need to decide what is most important in your life.

Is it more important to do the ironing right now and make sure you don’t miss the latest episode of your soap opera?

Or is it more important to sit down and spend some time planning and working towards creating the life of your dreams?

Working on changing your life can appear to be very daunting, particularly if you are not in the best of places to start with. You look at everything that you want to change and want to deal with and wonder where on earth you are going to start.

In these cases it is best to “chunk” down the tasks and the goals you have in mind. This means break the big goal into smaller chunks, or take baby steps. Take it one step at a time, and before you know it, you will be where you want to be.

How many people get to their old age and say, “I wish I had spent more time at work” or ironing, or watching soap operas, or …

So what can you do to find more time

Look at what activities you are engaged in and decide which you can cut out for the sake of creating the future of your dreams
Combine some activities so you are doing more than one thing at a time

Focus on what is important to you. Is half hour in front of a soap opera more important than a half hour working towards your future?

Prioritise creating the life of your dreams

Right now, stop saying, “I’ll start tomorrow” or “I’ll sort that out when I have time” or “I’ll deal with that later”. It’s never going to happen; never going to work. Just do it and make it happen right now.

The perfect situation for change will never happen. You will always find distractions, excuses and reasons not to make the changes or take the action. You can spend many miserable years waiting for that perfect situation and you know what? There’s never going to be a perfect situation, only the now.

As the advert for the trainers say, “Just do it”. That’s what you need to do too. Stop planning, putting off and thinking you’ll do something when you have more time. Just do it today

“We are all born with the same amount of time. Nobody will ever get any more than 24 hours in a day; nobody will get more than 365 days in a year. It’s your choice whether you will use this time to create an amazing life or fritter it away uselessly. It is this choice that makes the achievers stand head and shoulders above everyone else. What’s your choice?
Jason E. Johns

“Plan your work for today and every day, then work your plan”
Margaret Thatcher

“Look to this day … for yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision. But today well-lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope.”
Sanskrit

Setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals

I cannot stress the importance of setting goals enough. Goals give us something to work toward, and help us feel like we are moving along a specific path. Establishing goals invites us to look at the big picture, break it down into smaller pieces, and get started toward accomplishing our important hopes and dreams.

It seems though, that many people aren’t quite sure how to set goals. One of the most common problems is that their goals tend to be too big. It is much easier to achieve smaller goals that fit with a larger objective, than to try and accomplish everything all at once. Here are some simple tips that you might find helpful:

Formulate two to three goals that you want to work toward in the next six months. Use the S.M.A.R.T. technique to help you define these goals:

1) Specific - set clear, concrete goals. Some examples might be implementing an exercise plan, working toward a certification, or improving your relationship with your spouse.

2) Measurable - identify markers that will indicate when you have reached your goals. If your goal is implementing an exercise plan, a marker is going to the gym three times per week. Or, if you want to have a better relationship with your spouse a marker might be checking in with him/her for at least 10 minutes per day.

3) Achievable - ensure that your goals are realistic. Ask yourself the question of whether your goal is actually achievable or not, and be honest! For example, setting the goal of losing 10 pounds in two weeks is not realistic (and definitely not healthy!).

4) Relevant - choose goals that are applicable to your personal or professional development. Make sure that these goals are something you are truly invested in, because you will be focusing a great deal of time and energy on them.

5) Time-Related - set a timeline that will guide your progress. Specifying a goal for two years down the road is not as powerful a motivator as one that you set for the next six months.

Once you have set a couple of goals for yourself that you feel comfortable with, share those goals with a close family member or friend. Often voicing them out loud makes them much more tangible, and may increase your motivation for reaching them. Also, the person you entrust with these goals could become a cheerleader, and someone to celebrate your successes with.

Rick Hansen sums up the importance of setting S.M.A.R.T. goals very well:

“The goal you set must be challenging. At the same time, it should be realistic and attainable, not impossible to reach. It should be challenging enough to make you stretch, but not so far that you break.”

Setting Goals and Obtaining Results

GOALS SHOULD BE QUANTIFIABLE: It should be possible to analyze every goal in terms of specific quantifiable objectives. Naturally, for certain tasks, measurement of objectives will be more difficult to attain; the key is to make every effort to reduce each goal to its most quantifiable form. For example, a customer service department might have the following general goals: 1. To increase output on customer acknowledgments. 2. To boost the number of customer telephone inquiries that are handled. 3. To distribute mail in a timely manner. As described, the above goals are completely immeasurable. It is almost certain that the manager’s expectations will not be met. The solution: Quantify these goals in a realistic, feasible fashion that will also insure departmental productivity: 1. To type 10 customer acknowledgment letters per hour. 2. Handle a minimum of 15 telephone customer inquiries per each two hour shift. 3. Open, sort, and distribute all mail for the third floor before 10 a.m. each working day.

GOALS MUST BE SET IN A PROPER CLIMATE: A conducive climate (where the employees do not feel threatened and are encouraged to ask for clarification) provides the possibility of two-way feedback. Such a setting insures that a transmitted goal or objective will leave no room for doubt as to what is required. Consider this example: the department head of inventory-control specialists who approaches all the specialists at once. She presents a department goal and in front of all the specialists, identifies how each will participate in the goal. Unless this is followed up with individual meetings with each specialist to discuss his or her role, it is likely that none of the specialists will approach the department head for any sort of discussion and, consequently, the goal will never reach fruition.

AVOID THE VAGUE AND AMBIGUOUS: Objective: “To increase the output of sales training programs for international personnel.” To almost any listener, some or all of the following questions may come to mind in response to this goal. “What does output mean?” If there is no room for measurement, how will we know when the goal is met? What is the time period involved? In addition, there is the vagueness of the term “international personnel.” Does it mean all personnel now based overseas, or could it include home office people based in the United States who are responsible for overseas operations? Ambiguous wording leads to such confusion, jeopardizing the success of what might be an otherwise reasonable, attainable goal.

The Hunter, The Forest, The Nagual and You

What does it mean when they say “look inside you to find the way to success?”

There was once a hunter called Juan who came from a little tribe, deep in the great Amazon forest, a tribe that was famous for its hunting skills. In his village, there were about twenty hunters just like Juan.

At some point in his life, Juan was finding it difficult to find game. He would go into the forest at dawn and return at dusk with nothing. This went on for about a month. He would try all sorts of different tricks with each new day, hoping that this new effort would bring him a trophy, finally. But nothing worked. So one day, he sat by the river and pondered what he could do to change his fortune. He decided to go see the nagual, the spiritual leader of the tribe.

He said to him, “Great Seer, everyday for a month I have gone to the forest and found nothing to hunt, returning empty handed. I see my fellow hunters returning with game, yet I return with nothing. At first I thought there was a shortage of animals, but I soon realized that in the great Amazon, there can be no shortage of animals. We live in abundance, we are surrounded by abundance. Besides, everyone else seems to be successful on most of their hunts.”

“Then I thought that it must be my hunting technique, that I was applying the wrong one. I tried everything our tribe uses, but with no success. Now I am at an end and I don’t know what to do. Can you help me?”

The Nagual said, “It is obvious, if only you were to accept full responsibility for your results. Accept full responsibility, and it will become clear to you. At first you blamed the forest, but then you realized that the forest was full of animals and all the other hunters were successful in most of their hunts. Next you blamed the technique. But when you tested everything that is known to us, nothing worked for you, even though they were working for others. Now, take full responsibility and see where you have not yet looked.”

Juan thought about it for a moment and said, “Ah, I see now. It is I. Something in me is causing the animals to run away from me, or me to walk only where they are not presently available.”

The nagual looked at him, smiled and waved him off. Juan went back home and searched himself. He looked for everything inside him that was not in harmony with the results he wanted. He examined his thoughts and emotions and found many that were just not supportive of his goal. When he resolved them, he found that he too would find success on most of his hunting trips. In fact, as long as he woke up, got out of bed and went into the forest, applied any proven hunting technique, he would effortlessly find game and catch it most of the time. When his inner world was in harmony with his goal, all he had to do, then, was show up and apply a technique. Life was sweet again.
