Thai’s Celebrate Yee Peng with Lanterns

Festivities aplenty in Asia, numerous of the most awesome of which go on in the South East. Not surprisingly Thailand is the place of Thai Lanterns and are today reaching a far larger audience as they gain popularity at UK events. One Such Festival by the name of Yee Peng follows the Buddhist Calendar and translates to the twelfth lunar month. November is when this occurs if your looking on a Western calendar. This Festival goes by the name of Loy Krathong through other regions of Thailand. The Thai people observe this religious festival and the customs it takes. My precious process is the freeing of ‘Thai Lanterns’ or ‘Khom Loy’. It is truly marvelous to watch the sky alight with these radiating orbs. Thai people think that the leaving lantern is companied by any woes. A happy and fulfilled life is said to be described by the lanterns fire leading in the dark. This fun event lures in even westerners although im not sure if they take it as gravely or just enjoy sharing in the festivities. The Thai Lanterns are biodegradable and are built from Rice Paper and Bamboo for structure. Flight time is about 12 minutes and the Lanterns are well-known to reach up of 1200 feet! There has been a rise in the popularity (excuse the pun) and has even found the Royal Thai Air Force vary their air activity and make warning to the airport to be cautious of future dangers should a lantern get lodged in a plane turbine.
