Cash Plays

In most casino and live games, the term ‘cash plays’ holds in effect. This means that if you have cash on the table with your chips, it is considered part of the money you have in your stack, and must be included in your all in betting. You can’t remove the cash at will, just like you can’t remove chips from the table (also called ‘going south’). The only way to take the cash off the table is to change it in for chips, or to get up and cash out like you would when you are ready to leave the game.

Not allowing people to take chips on and off the table protects other online poker players from having their opponents manipulate the amounts they have in play. If this were left variable, it could get hazy what’s in play when, and how much is at risk on any given hand. As always, in most houses an online poker player is allowed to add cash or chips to his stack between hands at any time, but once you do you can’t remove it.

Many houses too will have a rule that only cash of a certain denomination is live. One dollar bills and five dollar bills are usually not playable, even if the stakes are lower. Often the minimum value of money on the poker online table is twenties, though this may vary from game to game.

Texas Holdem Tournaments and Online Bonuses

Most online poker casinos require some form of play through for Texas Holdem poker players before they can withdrawal their bonus money. While this poses enough of a problem for cash game players, it is even more of an issue for tournament players. In the stone age of internet poker playing, tournament poker players were not even eligible for bonuses because there was no accurate way to calculate play through. We have obviously come a long way from that time, but there are still special considerations that you need to think about if you are an online tournament player. I would strongly advise to carefully check the bonus details before you try to win your way to riches using a Texas Holdem Tournament. You may face different restrictions than the normal player, like adjusted play through requirements, stake requirements, or even amount of time you need to stay active it the tournament. Ignorance is no excuse and can severely hamper your ability to collect later down the line. You live in a lucky age where it is possible to use online bonuses in Texas Holdem tournaments, if you are willing to put the effort into learning the conditions first. A little bit of prep work really pays off, so put in the effort before you sign up.

Using a Player’s Confidence against Him

There’s little worse than having to suffer through the ego of a poker player who thinks he is bigger than he is. Some types of players can log a few months of good sessions, maybe win a tournament or two, and suddenly they have advice for everyone. They want to be the online poker table captain, and berate ‘bad play,’ all while making sure you know he knows every intricacy of the game forwards and backwards. He likes to imagine himself already in possession of your money.

Like any person who has allowed their confidence to swell beyond modest size, finding ways to use that cockiness against them can be a great weapon when utilized properly. Feigning weakness and allowing him to try to win you over can work against more aggressive types, but if he fancies himself a poker artist, it can be more of a complex manner of approach.

One of the keys against these types of online poker players is letting him get caught up in pride. Beat him or bluff him a big pot and you might find him even more honed on getting even, which is when his high gear kicks in and yours remains cool and level, letting him continue to fire against you in retribution. In poker, patience often pays.

Chinese Lanterns Recently Mistaken for UFO

Chinese lantern seem to be the cause of last weeks UFO footage. Vocalist from Harborough Robin Maughan captured footage of a mysterious object in the sky above West Avenue park in Harborough Last week on mondayThe story appeared last week in Harborough Mail, The office took a fair few calls by readers who had as well found the unknown airborne object. However, as with previous sightings reported to the Mail in 2007 and earlier this year, A chinese lantern is the likely and more believable reason2 people were sighted by one Michael Williams setting off a lantern near his house in Farndon Road In the same timeframe as the video captured by Mr Maughan.Barnard Gardens occupant Barry Loakes, contacted the publication to say he got a glimpse at the object through binoculars and thought it looked like a Chinese lantern. The lanterns measure about 3 foot high and several lanterns set off during a birthday bash at a home in Lubenham Hill, Harborough, in February 2007 instigated a UFO stir and the same affair happened earlier this year after one was let off from a home in Kettering Road.Trevor Jones disagrees that these are lanterns after seeing one whilst dog walking in a local park.Mr Jones, of Morris Road, related the object to a jellyfish and recalls noticing a similar object a month earlier.a different possibility was put forward by Maddy Ward, who saw the video and considered it looked like the International Space Station crossing the sky.

Is Poker Meant to Be Fun?

I have heard murmuring on some poker online forums that it is wrong to say that people play poker at the casino online for the money. They say that there are a lot of different reasons that people play poker, but the overarching reason is for the pure fun of the game. To be fair, most of these forums are attached to free online casinos that draw in customers looking for a game with no consequences. These comments got me thinking about the nature of the game. Is Poker meant to be fun?

I need to come down on the side of no. At least poker is no fun in the conventional sense. It has too many adrenaline spikes to make it enjoyable in the traditional sense. I mean, just look at the mechanism of the online poker game- one winner and a whole bunch of losers each hand. Are the losers supposed to be having fun? That’s a bit of a stretch. I think poker is supposed to give you adrenaline highs, and mental rushes, but I don’t think it is supposed to be fun. It’s more like chess where you get mental satisfaction than the pure mindless fun of slot machines. I play because I like poker exactly how it is, not because I believe some prepackaged idea that it is supposed to be fun. I urge you to come to the same conclusion and leave the clichés behind.

Playing to Win (and for the Cash)

In a online poker tournament, the player who survives and surpasses all the other poker online players is the victor, and to the victor go the spoils. Across the board, regardless of where or when you find yourself playing, first place in a poker tournament is the position everybody strives to take, not only because it means they have bested every other player in the field, but also because they get the biggest cut of the purse.

While the percentages distributed among the paying slots may vary from tournament to tournamentusually with each lower rank of finishing getting a little bit less than the one ahead of it, obviously thus to inspire the winthere’s no question that the top prize is always the biggest. In many variants of poker payouts the first of those who get paid (if the field is large enough) often may get paid an equal token amount, but as the finishing gets closer and closer to the finale, the bigger and bigger prizes are awarded.

While you may often hear poker online pros saying they are more interested in the title and honor of winning a major event than they are the cash, for most non-super-rich players in the poker industry, the money is the biggest motivatorthough no matter who you are, the thrill of having bested a large field is one that almost feels better than anything that can be bought.

The Chinese Roots of Playing Cards

The modern designs that we see on mass marketed poker playing card packs at the casino are typically imagers of 15th and 16th century European royalty. Even the names of the cards, like King and Queen, represent a European cultural model. Given the decided European slant of modern playing cards, it may be difficult to belief that playing cards can actually be traced to China.

A major argument in favor of the Chinese roots of playing cards is that the earliest cards were printed on paper. Paper, of course, is said to be invented in China in 105 A.D. This important invention would have provided the pivotal material needed to produce playing cards. When combined with wood block printing techniques created in Egypt, the Chinese had the capacity to produce something similar to a deck of cards.

The earliest record of playing card use in China mentions cards being used during the T’ang dynasty (618-906). There is a bit of a problem with source material at this point because while the source mentions cards during the T’ang dynasty, it was not actually written until a couple of hundred years later. Most scholars agree that the use of poker playing cards was prevalent in China by the 9th century, although more expensive decks were reserved for the sole use of the emperor.

Online Poker Revenues down

According to the Web site Gambling911, revenues for casino and online poker are down thus far in October, primarily due to the bad state of the world economy. The problem may be driven by fears of a recession and job loss or it could be that online poker rooms are having a tougher time this month with processing new signups, the site reports.

Gambling has long been considered a “recession proof” industry. That may still be the case with web-based gambling, but Las Vegas was hit early on in the crisis with a number of casino companies realizing substantial losses. The problem with Vegas could very well have stemmed from the high price of gas. Escalating fuel costs also resulted in airline fare increases as well as reduced flight schedules in and out of Las Vegas.

Some players have taken note of the reduced numbers taking part in poker games at the Borgata in Atlantic City. In Europe, the online gambling arm of brick and mortar businesses was expected to help some of Great Britain’s biggest bookmakers weather the recession that has already cast a dark cloud over that nation.

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues if the world economy remains in a slow state.

Playing Poker in a Bad Economy

Simple question: Does online poker suffer when the economy is in the tank?

I’ve always read that during an economic downturn, certain industries, understandably, suffer. In the States, the housing market collapsed in the wake of predatory lending and all that, and gas prices skyrocketed. Not a good mix. Travel suffered, tourism changed from a long distance affair to staying in your AC-pumped living room, and disposable income quickly became a cool thing to talk about in terms of what the “good ol’ days” had to offer.

But what about card games, and especially that great game, poker?

Turns out that poker, like many gambling games, actually see and uptick when times are touch financially. As people flock to fill that depressing void in their lives where their savings once was, they play poker not only as an escape, but as an ill-conceived way of producing a little more money.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but then again when people are desperate they’ll try anything. It’s just a shame that many people turn to gambling, or the lottery or other games of chance, because the odds are always going to be stacked against them. There’s no easy fix.

My fix? Try the movies!
