A recent research concluded that young internet users were using the internet in a very different manner as opposed to older users. This has led to a decrease in attention span of these users.

The research was conducted on a group of 12 to 18 year old participants. They were given a series of questions and a number of websites that they could use to research the material. This age group spent only a short amount of time researching the information and they used only half the number of web pages as compared to older participants. Approximately 40% of the young users used only 3 pages or less to find their answers. However the older group visited the same source several times before moving on to different websites.

The research concluded that the younger audiences were more comfortable with using different websites more often than using only a single website as reference. The constant flipping through web pages showed that the younger internet users lost their attention span and focus quickly. It was thus concluded that extensive exposure to internet had an adverse impact on their concentration levels.

Professor David Nicholas from the London University College believes that the internet is leading to a change in the thinking patterns of the youth and this is not necessarily a good thing.
